Micro language, micro behaviours
We cannot not communicate, and much of what we say or do - how we talk and behave - is unconscious, automatic. Yet how we communicate verbally, and through tone and body language - including the specific words we choose - can make the difference between creating a positive or negative impact.
Key choices
In any interaction there are choices to be made, between what we say and how we say it. We will cover the most important choices in these courses, including: - questions or statements? - active or passive? - direct or indirect? - visual, auditory or kinaesthetic?
Interpersonal skills
The key skills and techniques that show you are, and have been, listening, ensure you ask appropriate questions, use words and body language to establish rapport, and acknowledge and value the other person will all be developed on these courses.
Currencies
If you live in the UK your currency of choice would typically be pounds sterling. If you went to France for a holiday, you'd probably take the host's currency - Euros. The idea of relevant currencies is really helpful as a communication tool. If we take currency to mean our preferred way of communicating, then we each hove our own preferences, but that may not be the currency preference of those we are working with. These courses will take you through the top ten currencies most people relate to, and how to use them effectively. You will be able to use our questionnaire to assess your own currency preference.

The short course clearly demonstrates, through several examples, how, in personal communication terms, little things make a big difference. The half day course builds on this groundwork, and takes a deeper look at inter-personal skills, currencies, and the most common pitfalls. (Participants will be encouraged to bring in any written work of theirs, to see if there is clear evidence of any currency preferences or pitfalls.) On the full day course, participants will have the opportunity to write or run a conversation, both of which will provide opportunities to test and develop the morning's learning.

We always provide a variety of learning approaches in each of our workshops.
Each workshop typically includes learning input from the trainer, supported by a range of mixed media, interactive elements, discussion and group work. Most workshops also include case work and practical skill-development activities to apply the learning, with more time dedicated to this in the longer courses.

Can thinking about what and how to communicate seem false and reduce spontaneity?
Yes...but it tends to be a short term, rather than a long term problem: if your ideal is to form good communication habits, then they will need more conscious effort to begin with - but they will become more natural over time. And you may want to consider whether the potential lack of spontaneity is worth a better overall outcome...
Will knowing about micro-communications make me more frustrated with unskilled communicators?
That is up to you. It might, but it also could make you more tolerant - and reinforce your commitment to continue to invest in good communication skills and techniques.
