Emotional Intelligence
Training Courses

How emotionally intelligent are you or your team? This workshop will help you find out.

Have you ever worked with someone who is technically gifted, but can be abrupt, dismissive and lacks empathy? Someone's high technical ability may no longer be enough if they cannot easily relate to others, which is the essence of emotional intelligence. These training courses will help you assess, and if necessary improve such emotional intelligence.

Emotional Intelligence Workshop Content

What is emotional intelligence ('EI')?

An overview of Golman’s EI, including his 5 key elements and sub-elements: self awarness, self regulation, motivation, empathy and social relations.

Why is emotional intelligence important?

These days, as much attention is paid to someone's behaviours as it is to their technical competence - so it is imperative for anyone to be successful at work to manage their own emotions and relate well to others,

Self-awareness and self-regulation

Some people have low self awareness - have no idea how they are coming across to others; others may know they have poor behaviours, but still do nothing about it. Self-awareness and self-control are the first two skills sets that contribute to emotional intelligence.

Motivation

Motivation is the third skill set in emotional intelligence. Do you struggle to get or stay motivated? We'll suggest 6 essential ingredients for successful motivation to exist, and last.

Empathy

This is the fourth skill set. What is empathy, why is it important, and how can it be demonstrated?

Working well with others

The final skills set deals with building and sustaining positive relationships with others - including leadership, managing conflict, influence and teamwork.

Emotional Intelligence Workshop Activities

These training courses will start with a group discussion of what emotional intelligence means, followed by the trainer's explanation with examples. Each participant will complete a self-assessment questionnaire to discover their own strengths and areas for development, and then take part in a number of scenarios and case studies to put their self-assessment to the test.

Never 'death by powerpoint'

We always provide a variety of learning approaches in each of our workshops.

Each workshop typically includes learning input from the trainer, supported by a range of mixed media, interactive elements, discussion and group work. Most workshops also include case work and practical skill-development activities to apply the learning, with more time dedicated to this in the longer courses.

'Want more?' resource pack

In addition to providing a copy of any slide deck, we always provide a ‘want more’ section, of curated resources including book summaries, podcasts, downloads and articles.

Emotional Intelligence Training Frequently Asked Quesitons

What is emotional intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is all about managing your own behaviour well. This starts with knowing about your own emotions and behaviours, and how they impact on others; changing any that are unhelpful, and then identifying and investing in those key skills that help you be empathetic, and work well with anyone.

Why is emotional intelligence important at work?

Until recently, success and progress at work often depended most of technical competence: that is no longer the case. People have to be technically competent and deliver positive and relationship building behaviours

How can I get started in improving my emotional intelligence?

A useful and quick starting point is to take our detailed emotional intelligence self-assessment questionnaire. This will help you reflect on and evaluate the strengths and possible gaps you might have - and an opportunity to discuss actions you might take to close any gaps.

How do I choose the best emotional intelligencetraining option?

The bite-size workshop will provide you with a clear understanding of emotional intelligence, and the questionnaire will allow you to assess your own. The half day workshop will work through the 5 key elements of emotional intelligence in more detail, focusing on the key skills needed for each element. And the full day will then provide extensive opportunity to test and develop those skills through practical case work and simulations.
