Resource Management
Training Courses

There are two types of resource - external and internal - and these training courses will cover both.

No-one can make much headway without appropriate resources: this obviously includes things you need from the outside world to get things done; but perhaps less obviously, things you need to find within yourself...

Resource Management Workshop Content

External resources

Why money isn’t truly a resource…then once you're clear what IS an (external) resource, learn how how to identify, gather and use what you need.

Support networks

Your attitude to needing or wanting support can determine success or failure. Get whatever help you can - and don't be afraid to ask!

Internal resources & resilience

Internal resources belong to us, not the wider world; and when we face emotional, mental or physical difficulties, such resources as we will cover on these courses can make all the difference to our overall performance and wellbeing.

Feel the fear…

An example of resourcefulness is the way we respond to fear: not physical threat, but psychological fear. Fear it typically a great inhibitor, stopping us from doing things - even if the fear isn't real, or is unlikely. Here are some ideas to help you deal effectively with such a situation...

Exchange Theory

A simple concept with profound results. If you have something I want, and I have something you want in exchange, who needs money…?

Values Agreement

A simple conversation between a manager and their team, based on an exchange of internal resources, that can have a profound effect on enhancing positive working relationships.

Who is resource management training for?

Our resource management training courses are ideal for anyone who would like to do more with less, in terms of limited budgets, and would like to know how to obtain and maximise resources without spending money. They are particularly relevant for anyone who wants to:

 - learning outcome Gain external resources with a low or no budget to spend.
 - learning outcome Build support networks.
 - learning outcome Assess their current level of internal resourcefulness, and work out how to maintain strengths and close any gaps.
 - learning outcome Deal more effectively with any fears they face.

Resource Management Workshop Activities

The shortest course (90 minutes) will provide an overview of the two main sources of resources - internal and external; including a self-assessment of internal resources. The half day will extend this by looking in detail at exchange theory, the values agreement, and how to constructively manage fear. In the afternoon the participants will have a values agreement conversation, practice exchange theory via a case study, and conclude by creating their own action plan.

Never 'death by powerpoint'

We always provide a variety of learning approaches in each of our workshops.

Each workshop typically includes learning input from the trainer, supported by a range of mixed media, interactive elements, discussion and group work. Most workshops also include case work and practical skill-development activities to apply the learning, with more time dedicated to this in the longer courses.

'Want more?' resource pack

In addition to providing a copy of any slide deck, we always provide a ‘want more’ section, of curated resources including book summaries, podcasts, downloads and articles.

The course was over too quickly, and had definitely whetted my appetite. The ‘want more’ section was a brilliant additional support, allowing me to explore the topic further.

What are the benefits of resource management training?

Improve access to external resources despite a limited budget
Strengthen internal resources and close any gaps
Create wider and stronger networks
Build a positive relationship with your team

Resource Management Frequently Asked Quesitons

Is resourcefulness inherent or learned?

Both. We are all born with a certain amount and type of resource. But this stock can be improved in two ways: by adding new resources to it; and by keeping existing resources in good working order.

Is it really possible to overcome my fears?

In evolutionary terms, fear was crucial for survival; but more recently there are new challenges that our ancestors did not have to face - at work or at home. Some of these fears are not life savers, but disablers, and it is important to recognise the difference, and deal more effectively with the latter.

Is it true that money is not a resource?

Yes - mad though that seems. Money is simply the most convenient way of acquiring the resources you need. If you had a bucketful of money but couldn't spend it, it would be no use to you. But whatever you spend it on - that's the resource you need.

Which of these courses should I take?

The shortest course will provide an overview and a self assessment, which may be all you need; the half day also covers exchange theory, values agreements and dealing with fear; the full day allows extended practice of the above. So - as always, it's up to you!
