Job Applications & Interviews Workshop Activities

The three training courses will take you though the whole process. The short 90-minute course will take you through four key steps: researching, applying, being interviewed, and any further assessments - offering our top tips on each step. The half day course digs deeper into those four steps, and provide the opportunity to learn more and practice key skills and techniques. The full day course builds on the morning's work, by running mock stages of the process, allowing participants to test and develop their learning.

Never 'death by powerpoint'

We always provide a variety of learning approaches in each of our workshops.

Each workshop typically includes learning input from the trainer, supported by a range of mixed media, interactive elements, discussion and group work. Most workshops also include case work and practical skill-development activities to apply the learning, with more time dedicated to this in the longer courses.

'Want more?' resource pack

In addition to providing a copy of any slide deck, we always provide a ‘want more’ section, of curated resources including book summaries, podcasts, downloads and articles.

My attention can easily wander, but this was never the case here, largely due to the variety of learning approaches used. Never a dull moment!

Interview Skills Training Frequently Asked Quesitons

What are recruiters looking for in a job application?

Mainly are you clearly and convincingly matching the job requirements - these are detailed in the Job Description and Person Specification (or Profile): make sure you use their words, not your own version, since many applications these days are sorted electronically, using ATS (Applicant Tracking Software) where the word match is crucial.

What do I need to get right in the interview?

There are too many factors to list here, and our training courses offer our top ten tips, known to help you make a positive impact. Two ideas to start with: how and where are you going to create added value, to help you stand out from the other candidates? And what will you say when they ask: "do you have any questions?".

If I'm not successful in getting the job, how can I find out how to improve?

If it's a good company, they will provide you with feedback - and if they don't, then ask for some. They may have decided there are too many candidates to provide feedback for, but may respond positively to any request. You can also run a mock interview beforehand, with someone who will give you honest and constructive feedback (a tip: if you do a dummy interview, do it early enough so you can work on and improvements suggested from the feedback).

Which of your three inteview skills trainingcourses would be best to take?

It depends. If you want an overview with key tips the 90-minute course may be enough; but if you want to practice key skills and techniques, then the half-day will do that, and the full day will then allow you to further test and develop those skills and techniques through using them in a series of job application and interview scenarios.
